Nexus NYC Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) represents the method of Rocian Gracie Jr., Grandson of Grandmaster Carlos Gracie.
BJJ is a martial art and sport that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting with the goal of gaining a dominant position from which to force an attacker to submit. The system was developed from a modified version of Judo including some techniques from Japanese Jiujutsu and with a focus on Ne-Waza (ground technique). It promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person using leverage and proper technique can successfully defend themselves against a bigger, stronger assailant.

CAPOEIRA
Capoeira is combined ancient rituals and modern creativity into a rich fabric of motion, percussion, and song. A typical capoeira “game” includes traditional music, precise kicks, evasive defense moves, and breathtaking acrobatics. In the words of one of the renowed masters, capoeira is “a dance that is a fight and a fight that is a dance.

Muay Thai is a combat sport from Thailand that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. Descended from muay boran, Muay Thai is Thailand’s national sport. The word muay derives from the Sanskrit mavya which means “to bind together”.
Muay thai is referred to as the “Art of Eight Limbs” or the “Science of Eight Limbs” because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, thus using eight “points of contact”, as opposed to “two points” (fists) in boxing and “four points” (hands and feet) used in other more regulated combat sports.
